Susan P. Jovero, BS Chemical Engineering, Batch 1982, presented, on behalf of her batch, the receipt of the initial donation worth 35,000 pesos to University President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, and College of Engineering Dean, Engr. Danny C. Molina, on March 12, 2019 at Dr. Rex D. Drilon Building (formerly known as the Administration Building).
The said donation is intended for the construction of the walkway going to the Engineering Building. Mrs. Jovero shared that they started preparing for this project two years ago and the funds were collected last January 9, 2019 when their batch had their most recent reunion. She also emphasized that this is only the first of donations that her batch intends to make. Dr. Teodoro C. Robles suggested that the construction of the walkway be started after this school year’s graduation and be finished before the rainy season starts.
Engr. Danny C. Molina, in response, acknowledged the effort of the BS in Chemical Engineering batch 1982 and expressed his thanks.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Jovero encourages the Engineering students to do well in their fields since the alumni are supporting them: “I would like to let them see who we are now because of the nurturing and the mentoring [we received from] the professors… in the College of Engineering, and the education that CPU had provided us, especially [for giving us the foundation for our faith in] our Lord Jesus. He really is the reason why we are now what we are.”

“There is work to do.” This was how CPUFOAA current President Flora Grace Guillergan-Cudiamat explained how the many CPUAAI chapters will get involved in the preparation of the Alumni Grand Homecoming at Central Philippine University in 2020.
The oneness of Centralian alumni comes with the general sentiment of the Central Spirit of love, cooperation and generosity, between and among 156 CPUAA chapters all over the world.
In a meeting with members of the CPUAAI Board, Perla G. Londres Waters, Chair of the CPUFOAA Endowment Committee, agreed that there’s such a thing as Central Spirit at work that bring the alumni together towards the achievement of success for the coming grand reunion at CPU.
The idea of a global reunion started in Chicago in 1998, with the founding of CPU Alumni Association of North America. During the Centennial Celebration of CPU in 2005, the idea came up again with a group of overseas alumni who met and discussed possibilities.
The global celebration takes place every two years; hence, the reunion in CPU in 2020 is supposedly the 11th. However, as it is going to be a grand convergence of CPU alumni worldwide, CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles proposed to call it the 1st CPU Alumni Grand Homecoming and this was unanimously supported by the CPUAAI Board of Trustees.
A gala night will be held at the premier Grand Xing Hotel in Iloilo City.

The CPU BS Nursing Batch 1979 recently donated US$900 and PhP22,300 for the laboratory. This is just one of the various batches of the CPU College of Nursing that has contributed to the Nursing Virtual Laboratory.
The said donation was received by CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, on January 29, 2019 at the CPU Alumni Affairs Office. It was turned over by Pastor Lloyd Basco, a faculty of the CPU Junior High School and a cousin of one of the graduates of BSN ’79.
At present, the College of Nursing Virtual Laboratory is already operational. The latest addition to the lab is Apollo, “an adult male patient simulator [that] has the most authentic physiology in the industry. Apollo offers simulation facilitators a range of opportunities with which to expose their learners to immersive training scenarios: scenarios where they may suspend disbelief and develop critical thinking, stress management, and patient care skills—all while gaining confidence and competence in procedure and protocol.” (https://caehealthcare.com/blog/cae-apollo-new-face-new-name-same-high-quality-simulation/)
The aim of the lab is to prepare students and develop their skills through depictions of real life situations in the laboratory.

On September 29, 2018, the members of the CPU Political Science Alumni Association (PSAA) will gather at the CPU Grounds as the organization turns four years old.
The CPU PSAA was born on September 25, 2015 with batches 1983 and 1984 CPU AB Political Science graduates registering as the first members. The first set of officers were comprised of Mr. Eric Otayde as President; Mr. Cyrus Natividad as Vice President for Administration; Atty. Gualberto Cataluna as Vice President for External Affairs; Ms. Alma Diaresco as Secretary; Ms. Jovy Espalabra as Treasurer; Ms. Juvelyn Clementer as Assistant Treasurer; Mr. Nelson Jutare as Public Information Officer; Mr. Reynaldo Gonzales as Business Manager; and Ms. Ruby Tupaz as the PSAA Muse. Attorneys Allan S. Montano, Joshua C. Alim, and Emmanuel Sodusta served as the advisers of the organization. The officers took their oath of office with CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, officiating.
Most of the founding members were active student leaders during their time in CPU, especially during the Martial Law years. The reunion is expected to be both meaningful and memorable. Many of the members to attend the reunion are currently holding positions in the government, as well as legal and the business and entrepreneurial sectors.
PSAA President Eric Otayde is looking forward to more members joining their ranks and to making plans that would support the University and its students.

The Central Spirit at the Capitol—The Central Philippine University Bachelor of Science in Nursing Class 1993 held their Silver Jubilee Celebration at Washington D.C. on July 29 to 31, 2018.
During the said get-together, 63 Centralian alumni rekindled their friendships and recalled their nursing days at CPU. Apart from touring the different historical sites such as the White House, the group held a family picnic at the Embassy Church and a gala night at the National Union Building.
Section D was the most represented section with 17 alumni. Jonathan Gapilango was hailed as Silver Reunion King while Mary Love Magbanua was crowned as Silver Reunion Queen.

Robles, in his message to the batch written in their program, said, “Your 25th Reunion is a testament of how blessed you have been these past years and how privileged CPU is to have you as alumni. Celebrating the Central Spirit across the globe—Centralians, 550 in total, came from different alumni chapters and associations around the world to gather together as Central Philippine University commemorates its 10th Global Reunion at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel on July 5-8, 2018.
With the theme “Fostering CPU’s Legacy: Let the Central Spirit Shine,” Centralians rekindled their friendships and shared their testimonies during the three day reunion. This year’s global reunion was spearheaded by the CPU Federation of Overseas Alumni Association-Chicago Chapter .
CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, thanked the CPU alumni for their undying love and support for the university. He also highlighted the accomplishments of the university and the contributions of the alumni in funding constructions and scholarships. Dr. Robles also expressed his gratitude to the alumni for carrying the CPU torch with faith and excellence in whichever part of the globe they may be. According to the alumni present, Dr. Robles gave a powerful yet simple testimony of how he transcended all of the trials in life and responded to his mission of accepting the challenging task of being the university president instead of just enjoying retirement with his wife, Angel, in their Wisconsin home.

Also gracing the event is honorary Centralian, Dr. Aaron Alfred Lee. In a concert entitled “An Evening with Music,” Dr. Lee serenaded Centralians. It can be recalled that Dr. Lee performed at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, CPU Campus on February 8, 2018.
For the first evening devotional, Engr. Eddie C. Cañuto shared his experiences as a working student of the CPU Libraries. According to Engr. Cañuto, to help support his studies he worked 2 hours every day for 75 centavos per hour as payment. He was able to graduate with a degree in Engineering and placed 7th in the Engineer Licensure Exam. At age 55, he retired from his engineering profession, sold all his engineering equipment to live a simple life in the farm, and pursue his passion to spread the Word of God.
Engr. Cañuto established Ephrathah Farms, an organic farm also engaged in agri-tourism in Iloilo. There, he enjoys teaching people how to grow organic fruits and vegetables. He shared that the most important thing he does in life now is to teach people the love of Christ. He encouraged his fellow alumni to trust in the promises and the timing of God.
CPUAAI President, Engr. Isagani J. Jalbuena thanks the CPU alumni community for their continuous love and support to the university.
Another devotional speaker who shared his testimony was Rev. Dr. Elmo D. Familiaran. In his message entitled “From Whence We Came,” Rev. Dr. Familiaran highlighted the importance of trusting God through remembering and obeying His Word: “Said another way, not only do we have the capacity to remember the past, but our experience in the present is informed and shaped by what we have previously felt, tasted, learned; and our memory of the past and our experience of the present come together through time to give us a vision of the future not yet realized but only imagined in our spirit and soul.”
He also emphasized the importance of taking root in Christ as the foundation of one’s purpose, “Without the consciousness of that story, we will not have roots; and if we do not have roots, we will be living lives devoid of identity and purpose. Our story is the power that sustains our spirituality, and it is so important for the vitality of our faith for today, more than ever, that it is nourished by the memory of our roots.”
The three-day reunion ended with Centralians filled with encouragement from one another and with the Word of God. The next CPU Worldwide Reunion will be on February 5-7, 2020 at the CPU campus.

The Centralian Spirit of Generosity—The Central Philippine University Federation of Overseas Alumni Associations, Inc. donated $3,400 to the university on March 1, 2018. Rachel Villanosa and her family donated $2,000 of the said amount to the CPUFOAA Grant-in-Aid and Recognition Endowment Fund while $1,000 came from Evelyn Turalba to be added to the College of Nursing Virtual Laboratory Project. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Class 1979 gave $400 to the said project also.
The said amount was presented to CPU President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles by Mrs. Perla G. Londres Waters, former president of the CPU Federation of Overseas Alumni Association, Inc. (CPUFOAA).
Alumni Imelda G. Quimpo and Michael F. Quimpo donated $55 dollars; $30 of which is for the renovation of the tennis court and $25 for the Occupational Safety Program. The said amount was turned over by the couple on March 1, 2018.
On March 4, 2018, the CPU Alumni Association Midwest Chapter, headed by Mrs. Mae Celiz Rogers, donated $700 to the God’s Grace Project of the University Church.
The university recognizes the role of Centralian alumni around world in propagating the Central Spirit. Thus, the Central Philippine University Federation of Overseas Alumni Association and CPUAA Midwest USA is inviting all CPU alumni around the globe to attend the 10thCPU Alumni Global Reunion to be held at Crowne Plaza, Chicago O’Hare, Rosemont, Illinois on July 5-8, 2018. 1977 Nursing Alumna, Ann Catedrilla-Seisa presented two checks amounting to $20, 000 each for the the construction of the Senior High School Building and the College of Nursing for its 5-million-peso Virtual Laboratory.
Following her inspiring message as speaker of the College of Nursing International Balik-Turo Program, 1971 CPU High School and 1977 Bachelor of Science in Nursing alumna, Ann Catedrilla-Seisa donated a check amounting to $20, 000 for the construction of the Senior High School Building and another $20, 000 to the CPU College of Nursing for its 5-million-peso Virtual Laboratory. Together with Atty. Salex E. Alibogha, Acting Dean, CPU College of Nursing, Seisa presented the checks to CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, at the CPU Administration Building, BOT Conference Room on February 1, 2018.
During the turnover of the checks, Mrs. Seisa shared how her stay in CPU has inspired her to pursue excellence and success in her career. “CPU has been an instrument to where I am today. I believe that they molded me with great Christian values, good ethics, professionalism and I am who I am today because of my training at Central Philippine University and it’s time to give to the university that gave us so much to ensure that the next generation of Centralians will be able to sustain the greatness of this university.”
Dr. Robles expressed his thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Seisa and to Centralians here and abroad who continue to love and support the university. “I would like to express my deep gratitude to Ann and Loy Seisa for their valuable contribution to the university, not only in terms of financial contribution but also for their moral support to the university.”

It can be recalled that in 2008, Mrs. Seisa and her husband, Mr. Narciso “Loy” Seisa, sponsored the construction of the covered stage located in the center of the Loreto D. Tupaz Building in honor of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ponciano Catedrilla. She and her Batch BSN 1977 donated 2 million pesos for the repainting of the Loreto D. Tupaz Building.
In 1986, the couple founded the Vagthol’s Residential Care Center, Inc. in Los Angeles, California. The center started as a boarding facility for senior citizens. Now, the center serves individuals with Phenylketonuria (PKU).
Mrs. Seisa is also the Chief Executive Officer of Solarex Energy International. She was a volunteer at the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center and later became a member of its Board of Directors and the chair of its Program Services and Strategic Committee. Currently, Mrs. Seisa serves as managing partner for ASN, LLC and Vagthes, LLC, real estate holding companies.

A commitment to a greater Central – the completion of the Nursing Virtual Laboratory will help catapult the CPU College of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in the region. The Central Philippine University College of Nursing Class 1990 donated $1, 156 or 58, 724 pesos for the completion of the soon to be constructed P5-million Virtual Laboratory of the College of Nursing. The said donation was received by Atty. Salex E. Alibogha, Acting Dean of the College of Nursing and CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles at the Board of Trustees Conference Hall on January 30, 2018.
According to Atty. Salex, the funds for the said laboratory have reach 2 million pesos. He hopes that funds can be completed before 2018 ends. The Virtual Laboratory will help the College of Nursing attain a “Center of Excellence” status in the region. The fund raising campaign for the proposed project has been ongoing with Nursing Alumni Associations worldwide. It will continue until the amount is enough to finance the proposed project.

The Nursing Virtual Laboratory will provide simulation of various nursing procedures such as IV therapy, parenteral medications, for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and others. They expounded that this is part of the Outcome-based education (OBE) curriculum. The lab will help prepare students develop their nursing skills, depicting real life situations, before doing it on actual patients. It will be a facility that will have doll simulators, IV virtual laboratory monitors, and camera for other students to watch how procedures are being done while in another room. With this Virtual Laboratory, CPU students will be able to practice their delivery of health care and errors will be minimized on real patients.
CPU President, Dr. Robles thanked the CON Class 1990 for their continuous love and support to the university. He also encourages Centralians here and abroad to support the cause as the College of Nursing gears for new heights in the field of competitive nursing.

Celebrating the Centralian spirit of camaraderie—The Central Philippine University College of Engineering Batch 1992 held their Silver Jubilee reunion at the CPU Alumni Promenade Concert Park on December 29, 2017.
For the welcome remarks, CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, thanked the alumni for their consistent love for and support to the university and for coming back to rekindle their Centralian spirit, “I’m glad that you came back to CPU to see what the university is like now. It will be an interesting year ahead of us. We believe that with everybody working together, we can meet challenges with flying colors.”
Guest Speaker and former CPU President Agustin A. Pulido encouraged the alumni anchor theirselves in the spirit of excellence Central has taught them and most importantly in the Word of God.
Former university President and guest speaker, Dr. Agustin A. Pulido, talked about CPU’s commitment in producing exemplary Christian learners, “The real inspiration is the lives you have lived since 1992. I have not heard the stories of where you have been in the last quarter of a century but I believe that you have done well. CPU is now 112 years old and in all that time, the university has stayed true to its mission of teaching its students about the world that is around us and the Word of Lord that is in the Bible—this is summed in our motto Scientia et Fides.”
Although he was not present, 1992 College of Engineering Dean, Walden S. Rio also gave his greetings to the alumni through a video. In his message, Dean Rio asked them, “Was your education at CPU adequate enough to cover your happiness, strong family ties, friendship, work, and faith and God?” He went on to say that adequate did not have to mean wealth, fame or popularity, “If your answer is yes to the former question, your former teachers and I are grateful to God because we have done our job.” Dean Rio then urged the alumni to remember the lessons they have learned from CPU and to pursue excellence wherever they may be.

College of Engineering Dean, Engr. Dany C. Molina, talked about the innovations and achievements of the College of Engineering especially on output-based education, technology, and learning management systems. Engr. Molina thanked the alumni for attending the reunion and hoped that they would continue to revisit CPU in the future.
Also present during the event was 1992 University Vice President for Operations Engr. Aurora Alerta Lim. Engr. Lim thanked the alumni for their active participation in university programs.
The batch then unveiled its Silver Jubilee project which is the rehabilitation of the EN 200 comfort room. The batch raised funds to remove and reinstall toilet fixtures and accessories, floor and wall tiles, ceiling and lighting fixtures, and toilet doors, jambs, and door knob sets.
